The Pithapuram assembly constituency remains a focal point in Andhra Pradesh politics, especially since it is represented by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. In a major political development, the YSR Congress suffered another setback in Pithapuram with the departure of senior leader Pendem Dorababu.
Dorababu had been a loyalist of YSRCP since the 2014 elections and even secured a victory against SVSN Varma in 2019. However, in the 2024 elections, Jagan Mohan Reddy sidelined him and instead handed the Pithapuram ticket to Vanga Geetha, believing she would be the ideal candidate to take on the fierce Pawan Kalyan. Though disappointed, Dorababu was convinced by the YCP leadership to support the party in the elections, in a desperate bid to defeat Pawan Kalyan. However, this strategy backfired, as Kalyan secured a massive victory, winning by a margin of 70,000+ votes.
Now, in a move that has further weakened YCP’s hold in Pithapuram, Dorababu officially joined Janasena today. He visited the Janasena party headquarters and met with Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, expressing his desire to align with the party. The Janasena social media wing confirmed that Pawan welcomed Dorababu into the party fold.
This strategic addition is a significant boost for Janasena, further consolidating its presence in Pithapuram, while also dealing another blow to YSR Congress, which continues to lose ground in the region.
