Controversial filmmaker Phanindra Narsetti, who skipped the success meet of his latest film 8
Vasanthalu, recently broke his silence in a YouTube interview. The film, which hit screens on June 20, failed to make an impact at the box office and was also met with criticism from a section of the media and the Brahmin community.
In the interview, Phanindra revealed that his original vision for the film included star actors Suriya and Deepika Padukone. However, the film’s producers, Mythri Movie Makers, reportedly advised against casting big names. According to the director, the production house felt that a star-studded cast might dilute the soul of the narrative and instead recommended working with newcomers.
“I had written the film with Suriya and Deepika in mind, imagining them in pivotal roles. But the producers felt the story would resonate better with fresh faces,” said Phanindra.
8 Vasanthalu is a slow-paced, emotional drama that traces the journey of a woman through eight distinct life phases. While the film attempted a poetic tone, critics pointed out its sluggish pacing and lack of engaging moments.
The cast includes Ananthika, Ravi Duggirala, Hanu Reddy, and others. Despite the film’s intention to offer depth and nuance, it failed to strike a chord with audiences or critics, marking it as a setback in Phanindra Narsetti’s career.
