According to reports from New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly preparing for a cabinet reshuffle ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2025–26 and upcoming assembly elections in several states. Sources suggest that the BJP high command is actively consulting with alliance partners as part of the exercise.
With crucial elections approaching in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and two other states, the BJP-led NDA leadership is keen to fine-tune both party and government positions. Political circles in Delhi speculate that Andhra Pradesh may gain an additional berth in the Union Cabinet, with discussions reportedly underway about inducting Jana Sena leader and actor-politician Nagababu.
Additionally, there is speculation about a possible change in the portfolio of Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, who faced criticism over his handling of the IndiGo Airlines crisis. He may be moved to a less prominent portfolio, sources indicate. Currently, Andhra Pradesh has two TDP ministers and one BJP minister in the Union Cabinet. While Jana Sena was earlier offered a ministerial berth, party chief Pawan Kalyan had declined at that time. Sources now suggest he may be inclined to accept a Union Cabinet position.
On the regional front, Chandrababu Naidu is reportedly pushing for Rayalaseema representation, potentially from the BC, SC, or Reddy communities, with names such as Nellore MP Vemireddy and MPs from Chittoor and Hindupur under consideration. Meanwhile, there is also a proposal to grant the BJP another ministerial berth in the Andhra Pradesh state cabinet as part of evolving alliance dynamics.
For Tamil Nadu, former BJP state president Annamalai is almost certain to be inducted into the Union Cabinet, reflecting the party’s strategic plans ahead of the assembly elections.
This reshuffle is expected to balance regional representation, reward allies, and strengthen the NDA’s electoral prospects across multiple states.
