In Retro, she attempted a more grounded, performance-heavy role — but the film didn’t strike the chord she had hoped for.
Now, another opportunity has slipped by. Pooja was reportedly in consideration for director Vignesh Raja’s upcoming film with Dhanush, but the role has now gone to rising Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju. The young starlet is quickly building a presence in Tamil cinema, already working with big names like Vijay and Suriya. With the Dhanush project added to her list, Mamitha’s ascent is undeniable.
For Pooja, it’s a reality check — even top stars aren’t immune to the industry’s rapid shifts. Once commanding some of the highest paychecks in the business, she’s now facing a visible dip in demand. The industry is quick to pivot, and one missed opportunity often leads to another.
However, it’s far from the end of the road. Pooja still has some notable projects in the pipeline — including films alongside Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Raghava Lawrence. While the spotlight may have dimmed momentarily, in the film industry, momentum can change with a single strong role.
All she needs is that one solid hit to reset the narrative. And given her talent and past successes, counting her out would be premature.
