There are reports that with some of the senior Congress leaders who met him at the Rashtrapathi Nilayam in Secunderabad for the last couple of days, President Pranab Mukherjee had commented that he doesn’t think Telangana formation can happen before polls.
Sources say Pranab didn’t share this view with everyone but with few leaders who were close to him since a long time and this included some Congress leaders from Telangana. Pranab’s words are considered final for anyone. Pranab feels that by the time the AP Assembly forwards its opinion by January 23rd, it has to be collated by home ministry which would then go to cabinet and after corrections it has to be approved and then discussed in the parliament.
He also added that this will at least take time till February 2nd week by which Lok Sabha elections schedule will be in place and so will be the model code of conduct! If this is true then the Telangana issue will get dragged a little longer.
