Filmmaker Puri Jagannadh, known for his larger-than-life storytelling and mass appeal, remains one of the few directors in Telugu cinema with a fan base rivaling that of top-tier stars. However, his recent track record has been uneven. After a successful comeback with iSmart Shankar, his momentum faltered with the back-to-back disappointments of Liger and Double iSmart.
Now, all eyes are on his upcoming project with acclaimed actor Vijay Sethupathi, tentatively titled Beggar, which is expected to be a turning point in Puri’s career. The film is currently under production and features an exciting ensemble cast including Samyuktha and Tabu.
In a significant musical development, Mahathi Swara Sagar has been roped in to compose the film’s score. This marks his first collaboration with Puri Jagannadh, although the director has known Sagar for years as the son of veteran composer Mani Sharma. Puri and Mani previously collaborated on iSmart Shankar, where the music played a pivotal role in the film’s success. Although Mani Sharma was initially brought on board for Liger, creative differences led to his exit. The two reunited for Double iSmart, but the soundtrack failed to create the same impact.
With Mahathi Swara Sagar stepping in, expectations are high for a refreshing musical direction. His youthful soundscape is anticipated to complement the film’s unique narrative and powerful performances.
Beggar is being jointly produced by Charmee Kaur, Puri Jagannadh, and JB Narayan Rao Kondrolla under the banners of Puri Connects and JB Motion Pictures. The film’s first look is expected to be unveiled soon.
