PwC To Sell ‘Brand Andhra Pradesh’

In an attempt to draw more investments and Multi National Companies to the new state of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has strike a “never-before” deal with consultant giant PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt Ltd (PwC). Naidu has hired PwC to market “Brand Andhra Pradesh” to the governments and investors in China, Japan, South Korea and several other countries. As part of the deal, government of AP is going to shell out Rs 47 Lakh (excluding taxes) as fee to PwC, in return PwC has to schedule CM Naidu’s overseas visits, fix appointments with various MNCs, and to bring more investments to the state by marketing “Brand AP”.
PwC, which acts as content developer and investment facilitator, is soon going to bring out a special booklet of AP government and prepare an infrastructure opportunities profile of the state. Ahead of Naidu’s visit to Japan, China and South Korea between November and December, Naidu roping in PwC has gained significance and raised several eyeballs. With this, CM Naidu is said to have stepped into the new role – “CEO” of Andhra Pradesh and thus strictly following “corporate-style” functioning.
Naidu, who is on a mission to bring in investments to the state, apparently wants himself to project as a corporate personality rather than as the political head of a state in South India. This might have prompted him to strike the deal with PwC. “Naidu’s Far East visit is on a business mission, not a diplomatic one which is why Naidu wants to project himself as a corporate boss, CEO rather than the Chief Minister of AP, ” a source was quoted as saying. Source adds, “CEO Naidu’s vision has surprised one and all, including corporate firms.”
Living up to the promises he made, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is leaving no stone unturned to make the truncated state into brand new state. During his previous tenure as CM for the undivided AP, Naidu had successfully created “Brand Hyderabad” and brought top software players like Microsoft to the city. In fact, Chandrababu was the first Chief Minister in India to take advantage of liberalization in the 1990s. Other chief ministers – including now Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed in the footsteps of Naidu. Well done, Mr Naidu.
