Taking to Instagram, Madhavan wrote that the recognition was beyond his imagination and credited his family’s unwavering belief as the foundation of his success. “I accept the Padma Shri with profound gratitude and humility. This honour is beyond my wildest dreams, and I receive it on behalf of my entire family, whose constant support and faith have been my greatest strength,” he wrote. He further acknowledged the blessings of his mentors, the goodwill of his admirers, the love of the audience, and the grace of the Almighty for guiding him to this milestone.

Calling the award a responsibility rather than just a recognition, the actor promised to uphold its values with dignity and sincerity. “I consider this not just an award, but a responsibility. I promise to carry this honour with dignity, sincerity, and a deep sense of commitment to the values it represents,” Madhavan added, expressing hope to continue serving with integrity, humility, and dedication in the years ahead.

R Madhavan is set to be formally conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, by President Droupadi Murmu for his significant contribution to Indian cinema. The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the Padma Awards recipients on the eve of Republic Day 2026, recognising achievers across various fields including art, education, sports, and public service.

A widely respected and versatile performer, Madhavan has worked across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema. He rose to prominence in Tamil films with Mani Ratnam’s Alai Payuthey (2000) and made his Bollywood debut with Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001), earning a strong fan base across languages.

Most recently, Madhavan appeared in the blockbuster Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar. The film’s sequel is slated for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
