One of the most controversial incidents in South Indian cinema was the 2017 rape case filed against Malayalam actor Dileep, in which he was accused of involvement in a gang rape and allegedly humiliating a female actress, among other charges.

After eight years of legal proceedings, the case reached its conclusion today.

The Principal District and Sessions Court in Ernakulam has acquitted Dileep of all six charges, including the rape and physical abuse allegations. Judge Honey M. Varghese pronounced the verdict in open court, noting that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence against him.

Following the verdict, Dileep described the case as “a conspiracy against me”, emphasizing that he has now been cleared of all charges related to the 2017 incident.
