Actor-director Rahul Ravindran first showed his directorial promise with Chi La Sow, but faced a setback with the commercial failure of Manmadhudu 2. Undeterred, he continued his directorial journey and teamed up with Rashmika Mandanna for the upcoming film Girlfriend. The shoot began some time ago, but the team has maintained a low profile for reasons known only to them.
Earlier reports had suggested a September 5th release, and the film has been generating buzz for nearly two months. The last update from the team came with the release of the film’s second audio single.
Despite this anticipation, the project has already faced delays, and further postponements could impact its prospects. Rahul Ravindran currently has fewer acting commitments, giving him ample time to focus on post-production. Sources suggest that the shoot is also nearing completion.
Rashmika Mandanna, a pan-India star with a box-office value exceeding ₹1000 crore, has been busy with films like Kuberaa, Thama in Hindi, and an upcoming Telugu project with Vijay Deverakonda. She has reportedly completed most of her portions for Girlfriend, though a few scenes may still be pending.
Industry insiders note that prolonged delays could affect the film’s relevance and box-office performance once it finally releases. Fans remain eager to see Rahul and Rashmika on-screen together, and there is hope that the team will finalize the release date soon.
