When it comes to electrifying mass numbers in South Indian cinema, Hukum from Jailer instantly comes to mind. The moment it was released, the song became an instant sensation, dominating social media and sending theaters into a frenzy. Its raw energy and perfect hero elevation made Hukum a benchmark for mass songs, a reference point for filmmakers for years to come.
Even Superstar Rajinikanth himself was deeply impressed. At the Jailer audio launch, he showered praise on music director Anirudh Ravichander—his own nephew—and even surprised everyone with a rare gesture: a kiss on the cheek. Rajini reportedly told Anirudh that no song could ever top Hukum.
However, things have now taken an exciting turn. After listening to Powerhouse from Coolie, also composed by Anirudh, Rajinikanth appears to have changed his mind. In a recent interview, Anirudh revealed that Rajini personally told him Powerhouse has surpassed Hukum.
Talking about Coolie, Anirudh only added to the buzz. He casually mentioned that he has already watched the full film and promised that the mass moments in Coolie are on another level altogether. In fact, he called it director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s best mass film so far. While Rajini’s legendary screen presence remains strong, Anirudh emphasized that the superstar has completely surrendered himself to Lokesh’s vision, giving the film a fresh and thrilling edge.
Anirudh also opened up about his creative process. Unlike many composers, he doesn’t follow a strict schedule. He usually wakes up around noon, spends time with family, and heads to the studio in the evening. His team of eight works very intuitively—if even one member feels a tune isn’t working, they scrap it and move on without hesitation.
With Coolie already generating sky-high anticipation and Rajinikanth himself declaring Powerhouse as a new benchmark over Hukum, fans can expect nothing short of a musical and cinematic feast. Going by Anirudh’s words, the mass moments are sure to be unforgettable.
