Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, is already generating unprecedented pre-release momentum. Despite only two teaser clips having been released, the film has become one of the most talked-about upcoming releases, with theatrical rights witnessing record-level demand both in India and overseas.
In the international market, Coolie has reportedly attracted offers nearing ₹80 crores—a figure that, if finalized, would set a new all-time benchmark for Tamil cinema’s overseas business. Back home, the Telugu states are also abuzz, with at least three leading distribution houses vying for the theatrical rights. Sun Pictures, which is producing the film, is said to be holding firm on a ₹70–80 crore valuation for the region, indicating strong confidence in the film’s commercial prospects.
Tamil Nadu is seeing even greater fervor, with trade analysts estimating that the theatrical rights alone could fetch close to ₹200 crores—an exceptional figure, even by Rajinikanth’s legendary standards. The ensemble cast—featuring stars like Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Bollywood icon Aamir Khan—has only heightened the anticipation.
In addition to theatrical business, Coolie’s non-theatrical rights—including OTT, digital, dubbing, and audio—are reportedly being sold at premium rates. With music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, expectations are high for a chart-topping soundtrack that will extend the film’s cultural footprint even before release.
Adding further intrigue to the Telugu distribution space is the potential involvement of Annapurna Studios. With Nagarjuna playing a pivotal role in the film, industry sources speculate that his home banner may acquire the Andhra–Telangana rights. If this materializes and the film becomes a major success, it would mark a dual triumph for the Akkineni family—both on-screen and at the box office.
A high-voltage promotional campaign is also in the works, with major pre-release events scheduled for July in Chennai and August in Hyderabad. Coolie is set to hit theatres worldwide on August 14, setting the stage for a massive box-office clash with WAR 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR.
With its star-studded lineup, blockbuster potential, and mounting trade excitement, Coolie is poised to become one of Indian cinema’s biggest releases of 2025.
