Rajkumar Hirani to Direct 3 Idiots Sequel with Aamir Khan

Sequels continue to be the flavour of the season in Indian cinema. While some directors plan sequels immediately after the first installment, others revive scripts from their iconic past hits. Bollywood largely follows the latter approach.

Now, acclaimed director Rajkumar Hirani is joining the sequel trend. According to reliable sources, Hirani is preparing to work on the sequel to his cult blockbuster 3 Idiots, the 2009 college drama starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi. Reports suggest that Hirani has completed the script, and the project is expected to go on floors soon.

3 Idiots was a massive hit upon release, leaving a lasting impact on audiences and securing its place as one of the most beloved films in Indian cinema. The announcement of a sequel has already generated huge buzz nationwide.

However, replicating the magic after such a long gap presents challenges. Convincing the current generation, who have seen numerous films in a similar genre across languages since 3 Idiots, will not be easy. Additionally, the expectations for this sequel are enormous, putting pressure on Hirani to deliver a film that lives up to the hype.

After 3 Idiots, Hirani delivered major hits with PK and Sanju. His latest film, Dunki, received mixed reviews and had moderate box office performance. He was also slated to collaborate with Aamir Khan for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, but that project was put on hold for unknown reasons. Now, Hirani is reviving his long-pending idea of a 3 Idiots sequel with Aamir Khan.

Fans and critics alike are eagerly waiting to see if Hirani and Aamir Khan can recreate the magic and deliver a sequel that lives up to the high expectations surrounding this beloved classic.
