The trend of biopics in Indian cinema has slowed down, but Bollywood continues to explore the genre. Now, all eyes are on the much-anticipated biopic of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, with acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao rumored to play the lead role. Known for his stellar performances in biographical films, Rajkummar has built a strong track record in the genre.
He previously portrayed lawyer Shahid Azmi in Shahid, followed by his role as Ramachandra Siras in Aligarh. More recently, he stepped into the shoes of visually challenged industrialist Srikanth Bolla in Srikanth. Now, he is gearing up to bring The Bengal Tiger—Sourav Ganguly—to life on the big screen.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, this ambitious project will not only trace Ganguly’s journey as a cricketer but also delve into his tenure as the BCCI president and his contributions to the Cricket Association of Bengal.
Currently in the pre-production stage, the film is expected to go on floors soon, with a theatrical release planned for next year.
