Telugu Desam Party MLA and Andhra Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju found himself retracting controversial remarks after expressing a differing opinion from Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan regarding allegations against Bhimavaram DSP Jayasurya.

On Thursday, amid strong reactions from Jana Sena Party workers and Pawan Kalyan fans on social media, Raju issued a clarification during his visit to Visakhapatnam. He stated that his earlier comments were made “based on the information available” and were not intended to defend the DSP.

“I only shared what I knew. I stay in the constituency five days a week, and no one has ever complained to me about him,” Raju explained. He emphasized that he neither intended to contradict Pawan Kalyan nor shield the officer. “If the inquiry finds fault, action will be taken,” he added, clarifying that his remarks were personal observations rather than a “clean chit.”

Raju further noted, “My information may be correct or incorrect—just as the deputy chief minister’s complaint may or may not be correct. Pawan Kalyan filed the complaint as a responsible minister and representative of the people.”

The controversy escalated when Raju publicly described DSP Jayasurya as “a good officer,” which triggered widespread anger among Pawan Kalyan supporters and online trolling. Attempting to calm tensions, Raju reassured that he fully supports Pawan Kalyan’s stance. “I am myself a fan of Pawan Kalyan. Some people have misunderstood my remarks,” he added.

This clarification appears to be a damage-control move aimed at easing friction within the TDP–Jana Sena coalition.
