Few stories in Telugu cinema are as quietly radical as that of Rakesh Mahankali. In 2007, while securely placed in his family’s pharmaceutical business in Hyderabad, Rakesh chose to break convention and pursue his true calling—filmmaking.
Through his production banner, Rakesh has consistently backed stories that resonate with emotional depth, authenticity, and artistic merit.
His cinematic journey began with Vinayakudu (2008), a tender exploration of self-acceptance that went on to win the Second Best Film Nandi Award. Its sequel, Village lo Vinayakudu (2009), marked one of the first true sequel series in Telugu cinema and reaffirmed Rakesh’s commitment to character-driven storytelling.
He then ventured into varied genres with films like Kudirithe Cup Coffee (2011), a breezy romance, and Paathshala (2014), a poignant coming-of-age drama that earned a Best Film nomination at the IIFA South Awards and recognition at the Telangana State Gaddar Awards.
Rakesh also made his presence felt as an associate producer with the 2017 blockbuster Anando Brahma, a horror-comedy that skillfully married critical acclaim with commercial success.
His global outlook became evident with Dear Nanna (2023), which bagged the Silver Remi Award at the Houston International Film Festival, extending his creative footprint beyond Indian shores.
Most recently, his film Sundarakanda stands as a reaffirmation of his guiding principle—cinema rooted in empathy, innovation, and perseverance.
Eighteen years into his journey, Rakesh Mahankali continues to embody the power of conviction, proving that when passion outweighs fear, cinema gains both heart and soul.
