Director Ashwin Kumar, who is currently working on the mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha, recently shared his thoughts on the much-anticipated Bollywood project Ramayana. Kumar expressed strong confidence that Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will create history in Indian cinema. Reflecting on the failure of Adipurush, he called it a valuable lesson for filmmakers attempting to adapt India’s rich mythological stories for the big screen.
Ashwin Kumar emphasized the timeless relevance of Bharat’s epics like the Ramayana, stressing that such stories deserve to be portrayed with cinematic grandeur and authenticity. He believes that Tiwari’s Ramayana, backed by a massive budget and an exceptional star cast, has the potential to set new benchmarks and redefine how mythological cinema is made in India.
The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, promising a powerhouse of performances. The cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Vivek Oberoi as Vidhyutjiva, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
The Ramayana will be released in two parts: the first part is scheduled for Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027. With such a stellar team and scale, expectations are high that this epic adaptation will leave a lasting impact on Indian cinema and global audiences alike.
