#RapeCharges: National Media Targets YCP MP

Amidst clamour for speedy probe in rape cases growing stronger across the nation, national media channels have veered focus towards the rape charges against elected MPs. Of the three MPs who are facing rape charges, one is from Andhra Pradesh. YCP MP Kuruva Gorantla Madhav, who is representing Hindupur Lok Sabha constituency, is facing rape accusation from a victim.

Overall, four major charges are in pending against YCP MP. Of which one charge relates to rape (IPC section – 376), the second charge relates to murder (IPC section – 302) and two charges related to criminal intimidation (IPC section – 506). The rape, murder and criminal intimidation charges were filed in 2012. The case is currently in trail in Honorable High Court.

Meanwhile, another case with charge of criminal intimidation (IPC section -506) is filed in 2019 against Madhav. Madhav has mentioned these cases under trail in his election affidavit.

With national media highlighting the rape charge against YCP Madhav, Janasena has picked up the issue. Janasena leaders and social media army have started trending new hashtag with victim’s name (#JusticeForSugaaliPreethi) and cornering YCP leaders. At a time, the war of words between YCP and Janasena at peaks, the rape charge against Gorantla Madhav that is in pending has come as a shot in the arm for Janasena.

YCP leaders are defending that the case is still under trail and it is yet to be proved. Madhav, a former police official who had served as Kadiri circle inspector, had fought with then Anantapur MP JC Diwakar Reddy and resigned his job. He subsequently joined YCP and YCP had offered him Hindupur Lok Sabha ticket. In a surprise development, Madhav had won with thumping majority from Hindupur.
