In the film industry, the career span of heroines is often shorter than that of heroes. While male actors continue to receive offers regardless of age, female actors usually find opportunities only during their younger years — and even then, face intense competition. Despite these challenges, actress Regina Cassandra has successfully reached the milestone of 20 years in the film industry.
Starting off as a model, Regina made her cinematic debut in a Tamil film in 2005. She later entered Tollywood in 2010 with the movie SMS opposite Sudheer Babu. Her performance in her debut Telugu film earned her critical appreciation, leading to a series of diverse roles in various languages. With films like Awe! and Evaru, she surprised audiences with her choice of unconventional characters.
Speaking to the media on completing two decades in the industry, Regina admitted that she isn’t yet in the top league in some areas. She shared that while she hasn’t consistently done back-to-back films in recent years, sustaining a 20-year career in the film industry is no small feat. She now understands why people consider this a milestone.
Regina recalled a time when she even considered quitting acting. However, she fulfilled her existing commitments and then found a fresh wave of opportunities from 2018 onward. That was when she decided to avoid repetitive roles and focus on variety.
She also shared memories from the early days of her Telugu career, when she received her dialogue papers as early as 6 AM. Not knowing the language made things harder for her, but she put in a lot of effort — memorizing lines, understanding emotions, and practicing each scene thoroughly.
Before entering the industry, Regina believed acting was just about performing on screen. She wasn’t aware of the importance of PR and social media. Over time, she adapted and now considers social media a crucial medium to reach her audience.
Currently, Regina is working alongside Nayanthara in Mookuthi Amman 2, directed by Sundar C.
