Actress and social activist Renu Desai recently participated in a heartfelt podcast interview, where she spoke openly about several important aspects of her life — including her first marriage, parenting, re-entry into public life, political interests, and social issues she deeply cares about. However, much to her disappointment, media headlines largely revolved around just one topic: her potential second marriage.
Taking to social media, Renu expressed her displeasure over this selective focus by the press.
“Hellooo! I realised that media people are more interested in my second marriage topic than all the important topics (religion, relationships, social media influence, etc.) that I’ve spoken about in my recent podcast, which shows and proves again what we as audience are giving more priority to,” she wrote.
Calling for a shift in attention, Renu urged the media and public to focus on societal and national issues that truly matter.
“So I request you to please shift your attention from a 44-year-old woman’s remarriage (which she herself is not sure about at this point of time) to concentrate on topics like tariff sanctions, women’s safety, economic growth, climate change, etc. — the issues I’ve discussed in the podcast that deserve serious thought if we wish to become better citizens and, more importantly, better human beings.”
In a pointed remark to the media, she added:
“P.S – I can talk about my marriage a hundred times because it affects my life and my close family! But please don’t let your education and journalism experience be used to highlight a grown woman’s second marriage — especially when it doesn’t impact society or law and order.”
With her bold and balanced words, Renu Desai once again proves why she’s not just a celebrated artist, but also a thoughtful voice advocating for meaningful dialogue in society.
