Varanasi, directed by ace filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli, is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, reportedly mounted on a staggering budget exceeding ₹1,300 crore. The globe-trotting venture stars Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead, with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra in a pivotal role, and Mollywood star Prithviraj Sukumaran portraying the antagonist.

In a landmark move, the film’s announcement teaser—which had already sent fans into a frenzy—is set to make history. Varanasi will become the first Indian film to screen its promotional content at the iconic Le Grand Rex theatre in Paris, with a special screening scheduled for 9 PM on January 5, 2026.

The event was confirmed by Aanna Films, a French distributor of Indian cinema, and is expected to garner significant global attention. The teaser will be showcased in an immersive, large-screen format, underscoring Rajamouli’s intent to maintain Varanasi’s international spotlight.

The film’s production is expected to continue for another eight months, with a theatrical release targeted for March 2027. Produced by K. L. Narayana under the Sri Durga Arts banner, in association with S. S. Karthikeya of Showing Business, the film features music by Oscar-winning composer M. M. Keeravani. The story and screenplay are penned by the legendary Vijayendra Prasad, promising a cinematic spectacle of grand scale.
