The upcoming vice-presidential election is steadily gaining significance, with both the NDA and INDIA blocs announcing their candidates. The NDA has nominated CP Radhakrishnan, while the INDIA alliance has chosen Sudersan Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge and an apolitical figure, as their candidate.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed this topic today, making a candid and heartfelt appeal to his political counterparts—Chandrababu Naidu, KCR, Pawan Kalyan, and YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
Revanth praised the INDIA bloc’s decision to back Sudersan Reddy, emphasizing that having an apolitical individual in the VP position could ensure unbiased and impartial decisions, which he believes India needs at this juncture. He further urged Chandrababu, KCR, Pawan Kalyan, Jagan, and BJP MPs to support Reddy, highlighting that he represents the Telugu states and carries an impressive reputation.
However, the political reality suggests that Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan are likely to support the NDA candidate, Radhakrishnan. Reports indicate that even Jagan has directed his party to back the NDA nominee, as confirmed earlier by YV Subba Reddy. Additionally, given BRS’s cautious stance toward the NDA, their support remains uncertain.
Despite the political challenges, Revanth Reddy’s appeal underscores a sincere effort to rally support for a Telugu candidate in the vice-presidential election. Yet, considering existing alliances and party directives, it may be difficult for these leaders to heed his request.
