Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Friday that there would be no expansion of his Cabinet for now.
During his visit to Delhi to meet Congress party leaders, Revanth Reddy informed the media that the party leadership would decide on Cabinet appointments. He clarified that he was not proposing any names for ministerial positions.
Earlier, Revanth Reddy met AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal to discuss the reconstitution of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). He expressed optimism that an official announcement would be made soon.
When asked about the appointment of ministers by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy dismissed any personal concerns, emphasizing that his actions align with the party’s decisions. “There is no personal discretion. I will work as per the party’s directives,” he stated.
Venugopal also held discussions with Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC President Madhu Goud, and ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Deepa Dasmunsi, an AICC observer. Reports indicate that AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are set to meet them for further deliberations on caste census and the status of Scheduled Castes.
Concerns over discontent among some party MLAs regarding leadership matters have been conveyed to Congress high command.
Before leaving for Delhi, Revanth Reddy attended a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, urging better coordination among MLAs and ministers. He reaffirmed that the Telangana government would function per legal frameworks and act against opposition-led allegations.
Addressing caste-related issues, Revanth Reddy assured a long-term solution, citing the need for discussions and legal provisions. The recent caste survey in Telangana reportedly indicates a 5.5% rise in the population of Backward Classes.
