Revanth Reddy’s Historic Visit to Osmania University

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made headlines today with a historic visit to Osmania University, becoming the first CM in two decades to set foot on the prestigious campus. Known for his bold and dynamic approach, Revanth delivered a powerful address directly to students, a move that sets him apart from his predecessor, KCR, who refrained from addressing the university community in 2017.

OU has a legacy of activism, with students playing a pivotal role in the Telangana statehood movement, often at great personal cost. However, during the ten-year BRS rule, no leader, including KCR, engaged directly with the student body, attending only select events such as the OU centenary celebrations, without entering the campus or speaking to students.

During his visit, Revanth inaugurated two new hostels built at a cost of ₹80 crore, accommodating 1,200 students, and laid the foundation for two additional hostels set to house 300 more students, funded by the Tribal Welfare Department. He also unveiled several new initiatives, including financial aid for students traveling abroad, the CM Research Fellowship, and a ₹10 crore state-of-the-art digital library reading room.

In his speech, Revanth confirmed that Professor Kodandaram would be re-nominated to the Legislative Council as an MLC. He also assured that the university would soon be free from heavy police presence, emphasizing that educational institutions should remain spaces for learning, free from external security forces.

This landmark visit marks a significant step in reconnecting Telangana’s political leadership with its historic student community and prioritizing infrastructure and academic support on campus.
