Telugu Desam Party, which had won just two assembly seats out of 15 seats West Godavari district in the recent assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, is all set to receive yet another rude shock.
Senior TDP leader and former MLA from Eluru assembly constituency Ambika Krishna has decided to resign from the party.
On Monday, he left for New Delhi to join the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav.
Along with Ambika Krishna, his brother Ambika Raja will also quit the TDP and join the BJP, sources close to him said.
Ambika Krishna, who was till recently a prominent leader in the West Godavari district, served as chairman of AP State Film Development Corporation.
Following the defeat of the TDP in the recent elections, Krishna voluntarily resigned from the post.
Known to be a close associate of TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Ambika Krishna emerged as a powerful leader in the district.
He recently shot into headlines for making unsavoury comments against former minister Peetala Sujatha, but later apologised to her.
Ambika Krishna, whose Ambika Darbar Agarbatthis have become famous all over the country, is also a film producer.
He produced films like Veerabhadra, Kanyadanam and Adanthe Ado Typu.
