Mani Ratnam earned his pan-India director status not just recently, but nearly two decades ago. His name alone is enough to spark excitement among audiences of all age groups. Actors and actresses alike eagerly await the opportunity to work under his direction. Mani Ratnam has showcased his brilliance across various genres, but his touch in love stories stands in a league of its own.
After the epic Ponniyin Selvan parts 1 and 2, Mani Ratnam is now gearing up for Thug Life, reuniting with Kamal Haasan after nearly 30 years. Interestingly, even before the release of Thug Life, Mani Ratnam seems to have locked in his next project — a romantic drama — and this time, it features Tamil star Silambarasan (Simbu) in the lead. Simbu is also a part of Thug Life, and during its shooting schedule, Mani Ratnam reportedly finalized plans for another film with him.
The buzz is that this upcoming film will be a love story — something Mani Ratnam is celebrated for — and he has reportedly roped in Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead. Rukmini, who won critical acclaim for her performance in the Kannada film Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, has been gaining popularity across the South. Following her breakout success, she has been receiving offers from both Telugu and Tamil industries.
She is already said to be part of the high-profile NTR–Prashanth Neel combo project in Telugu. Now, with a Mani Ratnam film also in her kitty, Rukmini’s career seems to be scaling new heights. Her fans are thrilled at the prospect of her working with such esteemed filmmakers. Although she primarily acts in Kannada films, the kind of opportunities coming her way from other languages could soon make her a pan-South Indian star.
If things go as expected, Rukmini Vasanth may soon establish herself as a leading actress in both Telugu and Tamil cinema. A film with NTR and another with Mani Ratnam could be the perfect launchpad for her to become a household name across the South.
