Moscow, May 3 (IANS) – Russia has declared a state of emergency in the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk, located in the Krasnodar region, following an alleged Ukrainian drone attack that caused significant damage to residential areas.
According to Mayor Andrey Kravchenko, multiple apartment buildings in the Aurora Residential Complex and Suvorovskaya Street were hit during an overnight strike, resulting in property damage in the city’s Eastern District. Emergency services are currently working at the affected sites, and temporary accommodation centers will be set up if necessary.
Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed that the attack occurred Friday night, damaging three residential buildings and injuring five people, including two children. Reports also indicated that three grain terminal tanks were hit in the incident.
Debris from the drone attack reportedly fell in several nearby areas, including Taman village in Temryuksky district, as well as Yurovka and Tsibanobalka near Anapa. While some private homes sustained damage, no fatalities were reported in those regions.
Reacting to the incident, Sergey Altukhov, a member of the State Duma representing the Krasnodar region, described the strike as a shift in Ukraine’s tactics — from targeting infrastructure to what he called “terrorism against civilians.”
“Novorossiysk is a critical logistics hub on the Black Sea. For three years, the city has lived in a state of high alert. But this time, the Kyiv regime targeted densely populated residential areas, injuring civilians, including children,” Altukhov said in a statement to TASS.
In a broader context, Kremlin aide Nikolay Patrushev, also Chairman of the Maritime Board, blamed Ukraine for escalating tensions in the Black Sea. He emphasized the need for maritime security cooperation between Moscow and Washington but asserted that “the next step should come from Kyiv.”
“Ukraine’s military and foreign mercenaries are the key destabilizing factors in the Black Sea region,” Patrushev stated, adding that Kyiv has repeatedly proven to be “incapable of upholding agreements.”
