Adipurush, one of the most talked-about and controversial films in recent Indian cinema, faced heavy criticism for its unconventional depiction of the Ramayana. Directed by Om Raut, the film starred Prabhas as Lord Shri Ram and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (Ravana). Despite its grand scale, the film was labeled a massive box office disaster, largely due to its weak screenplay, questionable dialogues, and underwhelming visual effects.
In a recent interview, Saif Ali Khan candidly spoke about showing Adipurush to his 9-year-old son, Taimur. When asked whether he shares his films with his children, Saif revealed an amusing yet telling anecdote.
“I just showed him Adipurush recently. Then, after a while, he started giving me a look. Then I said, ‘Yeah, sorry.’ He said, ‘It’s okay.’ He forgave me,” Saif recalled with a laugh.
Saif played the film’s antagonist, a highly stylized and dark version of Ravana, which drew sharp criticism from both audiences and critics alike. While he did not explicitly state why he apologized to his son, it’s likely due to the film’s negative reception and possibly the menacing role he portrayed — something that might not sit well with young viewers.
The actor’s light-hearted exchange with Taimur subtly reflects the disconnect between the film’s intent and audience expectations, especially among children who may find the portrayal jarring.
