Bollywood’s latest sensation Saiyaara, featuring newcomers Ayan Panday and Aneet Padda, and directed by Mohit Suri, is dominating the box office. The film swiftly crossed the ₹100 crore mark within just four days of release and is now fast approaching a ₹200 crore gross in India.
However, despite its commercial success, Saiyaara has stirred controversy with plagiarism allegations. Observers and audiences have pointed out the film’s striking similarities to the acclaimed Korean movie A Moment to Remember. Interestingly, this storyline had already made its way into Telugu cinema. Director Hanu Raghavapudi earlier adapted the Korean original into Padi Padi Leche Manasu, starring Sharwanand and Sai Pallavi. While he altered the reason behind the couple’s separation, the essence of the plot remained largely intact. Unfortunately, the Telugu version didn’t fare well at the box office.
In contrast, Mohit Suri’s interpretation of the story has deeply resonated with audiences, aided by emotionally engaging storytelling and a highly praised soundtrack. Industry experts suggest that while both films were inspired by the same source, Suri’s superior execution, refined narrative style, and musical appeal helped transform a familiar tale into a massive box office success.
