Samsung Electronics has officially announced plans to launch its first tri-fold smartphone by the end of 2025, marking a bold step forward in the evolution of foldable mobile technology. The confirmation came directly from TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile at Samsung, following the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2025, where the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE were unveiled.

TM Roh: “We’re Working Hard on It”

Speaking to media after the Unpacked event, TM Roh stated, “We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year.” He emphasized that the upcoming device will meet Samsung’s rigorous standards for quality and usability. While the final name of the product remains undecided, Roh confirmed that it will be revealed closer to the official launch date.

According to a separate report by Android Authority, a senior Samsung executive disclosed that the tri-fold device is already in the preparation phase for mass production. The company is currently analyzing consumer demand to determine the scope of the initial release.

What to Expect from the Tri-Fold Device

Though Samsung has not yet released official specifications or imagery, industry leaks suggest the device will feature a 9.96-inch to 10-inch OLED display when fully unfolded, along with a secondary 6.54-inch screen in its folded form. The phone is expected to fold inwards twice, creating a Z-shaped profile when opened.

Performance-wise, the device may be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and include a silicon-carbon battery, offering improved power efficiency and longevity. Early pricing rumors indicate a premium price point, potentially exceeding $2,900 (~₹2.49 lakh), with an initial release likely limited to South Korea and China. A broader international launch is expected in 2026, possibly alongside a second-generation model with refined design improvements.

A New Chapter in Mobile Innovation

Samsung initially teased the tri-fold concept at its January 2025 Galaxy Unpacked event, sparking widespread speculation. With official confirmation now in place, the company appears ready to lead yet another transformation in mobile design.

If successful, the tri-fold smartphone could redefine the boundaries of mobile form factors, merging flexible hardware with Samsung’s expanding AI ecosystem. As anticipation builds, industry observers are closely watching what could be the most advanced and ambitious Galaxy device to date.
