Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is currently busy with multiple projects, especially in South Indian cinema, where he is receiving more opportunities and higher remuneration compared to Hindi films. Apart from acting, Dutt occasionally steps into the producer’s role, following his personal principle of reinvesting his film earnings back into cinema.
One such investment was in The Bhooti, a film starring Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, and Mouni Roy, directed by Siddhant Sachdev. Released in May this year, the film was made on a budget of ₹30 crore, partially funded by Sanjay Dutt himself. Unfortunately, the film tanked at the box office, recovering only around ₹15 crore — leaving Dutt with a ₹15 crore loss.
Though the content wasn’t entirely poor, it simply failed to connect with the audience in theatres. As a result, many preferred to wait for the OTT release instead. The good news for curious viewers is that The Bhooti is now set to stream on ZEE5 from July 18, with an official announcement already made.
While some reports suggest the OTT deal didn’t fetch significant returns for Dutt either, the digital release might still give the film a second life with audiences.
As for the story, The Bhooti revolves around a haunted spirit residing in a college campus tree, which awakens due to a young man’s actions, leading to a series of eerie and thrilling events. Those who watched the film noted that some of the thriller elements were engaging, despite its lackluster box office run.
