Kamalkanta Das, headmaster of Budakhunta Upgraded Primary School in Oupada block of Balasore district (Odisha), drew flak for mistakenly conducting condolences meet to pay tribute to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ‘death’.
Yes, Kamalakanta Das learned about this flawed news from a fellow teacher while attending a teachers’ training programme in another school. So, he telephoned to school staff and informed the same. The students and teachers held a memorial meeting for Vajpayee after which the school was shut down for the day.
Locals who learnt of the ‘condolence meet’ for Vajpayee were agitated and complained to the District Collector against the headmaster seeking strict action against him and also his removal.
Vajpayee is very much ‘alive’, although has been keeping ill for sometime now. In the last few years he hardly has made public appearances owing to his deteriorating health conditions. On 27th May 2015, President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee at his residence keeping in view his ill-health.
A similar incident was occurred few months ago. Jharkhand Education Minister Neera Yadav was seen paying homage to former Indian President Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam by offering floral tribute while he was still alive.
