Tension gripped national capital Delhi after a cricketer-turned-politician moved the police alleging that he received a death threat. Following the complaint received by the personality, the cops had swung into action and beefed up the security at the resilience as a precautionary measure to avoid any unwanted scenes. This made many heads turn.
World Cup-winning cricketer, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Gautam Gambhir alleged that he received an email with a threat reportedly. The mail says Gambhir and his family members have been threatened. On the grounds of the email, he lodged a police complaint. Reacting to the complaint, the cops increased security at his residence in Delhi.
Gautam Gambhir had written to the deputy police commissioner (central) Shweta Chauhan on the matter and sought security at his residence. The Parliamentarian also asked the Police to file a First Information Report and probe the matter.
In the letter, Gambhir said that he received the threat from the Islamist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria(ISIS) that threatened to kill him and his family. He had also attached a copy of the email he received from the group.
After registering a complaint in this matter, the cops had increased security at Gambhir’s residence and the probe into the incident is underway. Police are yet to reveal more information and details on the matter. Comment from Gambhir is also awaited. While Gautam Gambhir received the alleged email giving threats on Tuesday, he immediately moved the police requesting the cops to arrange for security at his residence.
Gautam Gambhir who was part of the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup and 50-over World Cup in 2007 and 2011 respectively had shed his gloves from international cricket and ventured into politics. He joined the saffron party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested the East Delhi constituency and emerged victoriously.
In the 2019 elections, he contested the elections. In his maiden elections, he crushed Arvinder Singh Lovely who was a Congress candidate for the elections. He had hit the ball out of the park by winning the elections with a huge margin of 3.91 lakh votes.
