Despite the festive distractions of New Year’s Eve, Telugu audiences once again proved their unwavering love for cinema, as theatres across regions witnessed healthy footfalls and strong advance bookings. The holiday mood did little to slow down moviegoers, with multiple Telugu releases recording encouraging numbers at the box office.
Leading the race among the current releases is Shambhala, which emerged as the clear frontrunner with an impressive 47,000 tickets booked on BookMyShow. This significant lead over its contemporaries reflects the film’s growing popularity, aided by positive word-of-mouth and strong social media buzz. The favourable audience response has helped Shambhala maintain a firm grip at the box office, especially during a competitive holiday window.
Trailing behind, Champion managed to register 17,350 tickets booked, while Akhanda 2 followed closely with 15,540 tickets. Although Akhanda 2 lags in numbers, the film continues to generate curiosity among viewers, suggesting a loyal audience base that could support steady footfalls in the coming days.
With major Sankranthi releases yet to hit the screens, trade analysts believe Shambhala is well-positioned to sustain its advantage in the short term. Open screens and the absence of high-voltage competition are likely to work in its favour. However, the real test will begin once festive biggies enter the race, making it crucial to see how long Shambhala can hold onto its momentum at the box office.
