Shankar’s Dream Project on Hold After Game Changer Failure

Share

Veteran and visionary director Shankar once had a golden opportunity to reignite his career with Game Changer, especially with superstar Ram Charan fresh off the historic success of RRR. However, the film failed to meet expectations, leaving Shankar in a difficult position with no new projects on his slate.

Meanwhile, Shankar had long nurtured a dream project — a grand historical trilogy based on the acclaimed Tamil novel Veera Yuga Nayagan Velpari, written by Su Venkatesan. The novel follows the legendary Tamil king Pari, one of the seven great rulers, and features rich history and powerful characters. Shankar wrote the screenplay during the COVID lockdown and had plans to create a spectacular three-part cinematic experience, promising stunning visuals and strong storytelling.

Yet, despite all this preparation, the project is now on indefinite hold. The disappointing outcome of Game Changer has shaken producer confidence, especially with the colossal budgets Shankar’s passion project requires. Given its niche appeal and high financial risk, producers are wary of committing to the film at this time.

This unfortunate turn of events reminds us that even legendary directors face consequences when they compromise on quality, making it all the more difficult to greenlight grander ambitions after a single misstep.
