The Malayalam film industry is currently facing a storm of controversy due to drug-related incidents. Shine Tom Chacko, who had previously escaped a drug raid, is back in the spotlight after fresh allegations surfaced against him and fellow actor Sreenath Bhasi. In a recent development, Kochi police arrested Shine Tom Chacko under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Chacko was interrogated for over four hours in connection with a drug case, after which he was charged under Sections 27 (consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the NDPS Act. However, the charges against him are bailable. According to reports, the primary focus of the police inquiry was why Chacko fled when he saw authorities at his doorstep. Chacko explained that he mistook the officers for ruffians intending to attack him and was unaware they were police.
It’s worth noting that Chacko had been acquitted earlier this year in a 2015 drug case, but his recent run-in with the law has once again brought the issue of drugs in the Malayalam film industry into the public eye.
