A mild earthquake has struck several parts of Hyderabad on Friday late night.The earthquake created panic among residents in scores of localities, particularly in the western and northern parts of the state capital.The tremor, measuring very low on the Richter scale according to preliminary reports, was felt at late night hours.
The tremors were felt in the areas of Attapur, Padmasali Puram, Charminar, Rajendra Nagar, Saroor Nagar, Pahadi Shareef and etc. The doors and windows of the houses and buildings rattled under the impact of the tremor. The residents in these areas also heard a rumbling sound. Many people got scared and came to roads.
Though people were seen panicked, no sort of human loss and property loss is reported so far. The police control room and media offices were flooded with calls from anxious residents about the tremor. Police went around the affected areas appealing to the residents over the public address system not to panic.
Till now four earthquakes occured in and around hyderabad in the past. The first one in 1843 in hyderabad measured 3.7 on the richter scale, the second in 1876 in hyderabad measured 5.0 on the richter scale, the third at gandipet in 1982 measuring 3.2 on the richer scale and the fourth at medchal in 1983 measuring 4.0 on the richer scale.
