Shocking reality of Coaching Centers: 50 Student Suicides In 60 Days

One tragic incident of Anita’s suicide when she could not get through NEET, shook the whole nation stressing the huge pressure she felt before giving up her life. In a shocking update, the latest reports indicate that more than 50 suicides were recorded in last 2 months in just Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Chandrababu Naidu ordered the colleges and coaching institutes to keep the pressure away from students to score and warned them of stern actions and criminal cases if students end up their lives when they could not cope the pressure.

Samyuktha committed suicide just three months after she enrolled in a coaching institute that trains students to get through medical exam. According to her father, she expressed her inability to focus after joining the coaching center. Experts and child rights activists say that it is not just the colleges, but also the parents who put the students under lot of pressure to achieve scores and ranks. Last month, a 17 year old tried to kill himself after his teachers said that he is not good enough to be in college and should roam on streets.

Activists opine that this blame can’t be just the colleges’ but also the parents who are pushing their children to crack entrance exams to become success stories at any cost. The outstanding performance of students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at cracking entrance exams to reputed national institutions entrances, too is building lot of pressure on students to bag more seats each new academic year. While there are students who succeed to crack the entrances to join national institutes, there are many others who fail to pressure and give up their life, as they strongly feel the insult of letting the family name down.
