Siddhu Jonnalagadda has carved a space for himself in Telugu cinema with sheer grit and determination. While his early career saw him take on minor roles and middling projects, it was the runaway success of DJ Tillu that truly put him on the map. However, the journey post-Tillu hasn’t been smooth. His recent outing Jack turned out to be a massive box-office failure, drawing criticism about both the film and Siddhu’s performance style.
This failure triggered debates on whether Siddhu justified the hefty remuneration he received and raised concerns about his over-reliance on the “Tillu” hangover. For a rising star in an unforgiving industry, Siddhu seems to have taken the criticism seriously — and is now reportedly preparing for a much-needed reinvention.
Though Siddhu is currently working on Telusu Kada, directed by Neeraja Kona, the general perception is that the film may not be a game-changer for his career. Instead, all eyes are on a more ambitious and experimental project he’s developing with Ravikanth Perepu, under Sithara Entertainments. Tentatively titled Badass, this film is expected to be a meta take on the film industry itself, and it’s shaping up to be a litmus test for Siddhu’s transformation as an actor and star.
This isn’t Siddhu and Ravikanth’s first collaboration — they previously delivered the well-received romantic drama Krishna and His Leela. Their creative synergy and friendship appear to be the driving force behind this new venture. Badass is reportedly the first in a two-part project, and it’s being positioned as Siddhu’s boldest move yet.
Industry insiders suggest Siddhu will sport a new look and adopt a different performance tone, directly addressing the critiques that he’s stuck in a repetitive mold. If Badass strikes a chord with the audience, it could very well reaffirm Siddhu’s position as the “Star Boy” of Telugu cinema.
Backed by the production strength of Sithara Entertainments and producer Naga Vamsi, Siddhu seems set to take on this challenge head-on. More details about Badass are expected to be unveiled soon — and the buzz suggests this could be the turning point Siddhu needs.
