The tragic incident at Simhachalam Temple during the Sandalwood Festival, where a wall collapse claimed the lives of seven devotees and injured several others, has left Andhra Pradesh in mourning. The accident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday, triggering immediate response from state authorities.

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha acted swiftly upon receiving the news. By 3:00 AM on Wednesday, she arrived at the site, assessed the situation firsthand, and coordinated emergency response efforts. She ensured that the injured were promptly transported to hospitals and extended heartfelt support to the bereaved families. Her tireless efforts and direct engagement at the scene drew widespread appreciation.

Demonstrating decisive leadership, Anitha mobilized police forces and SDRF teams without delay. Her immediate presence and active involvement during the early hours of the crisis earned praise from many, including Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

Later that evening, Pawan Kalyan issued a public statement commending Anitha’s commitment and compassion. He noted that her swift and empathetic response exemplifies the alliance government’s dedication to public welfare. He emphasized that elected officials should not only act promptly in crises but also offer emotional support to those affected — a role Anitha fulfilled commendably.

Kalyan also recalled Anitha’s involvement in supporting the family of Chandramouli during the Pahalgam incident, highlighting her consistent presence in times of distress. According to him, her actions reflect a responsible and people-centric approach to governance.

Interestingly, this praise comes just months after a public critique by Pawan Kalyan himself. At a rally in Pithapuram, the Deputy CM had voiced concern over the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, particularly regarding crimes against women. He even suggested that if the situation failed to improve, he might consider assuming charge of the Home Ministry.

Anitha responded to these remarks constructively, acknowledging the criticism as motivation to strengthen her resolve. She reiterated her commitment to public safety and emphasized ongoing government efforts to combat gender-based violence and enhance law enforcement effectiveness across the state.

This exchange between the Deputy Chief Minister and the Home Minister highlights the evolving dynamics within the coalition government, marked by accountability, cooperation, and a shared goal of improving governance in Andhra Pradesh.
