SIT Liquor Scam Chargesheet Triggers Political Storm in AP

The alleged liquor scam during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy continues to stir political unrest in Andhra Pradesh. On Saturday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a preliminary chargesheet, intensifying the case’s political significance.

According to the SIT, while Jagan Mohan Reddy was not named as an accused, he is believed to be the ultimate beneficiary of the kickbacks. The chargesheet includes several key figures, and a total of 12 arrests have been made so far.

Among those arrested are YSRCP MP P. Mithun Reddy, former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, SPY Agro’s Sajjala Sridhar Reddy, ex-CMO secretary K. Dhanunjay Reddy, and OSD P. Krishna Mohan Reddy. The prime accused in the case is Raj Kesireddy.

However, the most controversial name in the list is former Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijay Sai Reddy, named as Accused No. 5. Despite being identified as a key player who allegedly held strategic meetings at his residence to plan the bribe collection process, he has not been arrested. After facing two rounds of questioning, Sai Reddy was reportedly let off, a move that has sparked widespread criticism.

TDP leaders have seized this opportunity to question the SIT’s impartiality, asking whether pressure from BJP leadership or the NDA alliance has protected Sai Reddy. His previous derogatory statements against current Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu — including sensational accusations involving temple ornaments and pink diamonds — have now resurfaced in political discussions.

Some speculate that Sai Reddy might have turned cooperative witness, providing vital information to the SIT in exchange for leniency. Regardless, the decision not to arrest him has raised questions about the integrity of the investigation and the functioning of the previous administration.

A senior minister criticized the development, stating that sparing a high-profile figure like Sai Reddy sends a damaging message to the public, especially when others involved have been arrested without hesitation.
