Sithara Entertainments, led by Naga Vamsi, has officially acquired the Telugu states theatrical rights for War 2, the much-anticipated sequel in Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Spy Universe. The high-octane action film stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in pivotal roles, marking one of the biggest North-South collaborations in Indian cinema.
Interestingly, YRF—known for handling its own distribution in major territories—has opted for a strategic partnership in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The decision was reportedly influenced by Jr NTR’s massive fan base in the region. Initially quoted at ₹100 crore, the final deal for the Telugu theatrical rights is said to have been sealed at approximately ₹80 crore.
This isn’t Sithara Entertainments’ first big distribution move. They recently took over the Telugu rights of Devara, another Jr NTR starrer, for around ₹120 crore and received a strong reception at the box office.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 follows the blockbuster success of its predecessor War (2019). The film is in its final production stage, with just a song left to be filmed. It’s slated for release on August 14, 2025, setting up a massive box office clash with Coolie, the Rajinikanth–Lokesh Kanagaraj actioner. Coolie’s Telugu rights have been picked up by Asian Multiplexes (Suniel Narang, Suresh Babu, and Dil Raju) for a reported ₹50 crore.
Both films are set for a high-stakes battle at the box office during the Independence Day weekend, which promises intense competition among exhibitors and distributors in the Telugu market.
