A small plane crashed in Northeast Philadelphia just 30 seconds after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport on Friday.

The single-engine Cessna 172 disappeared from radar after reaching an altitude of approximately 1,600 feet. Officials believe unexpected wind and heavy fog may have contributed to the crash.

Reports indicate that six people were on board, including two doctors, two pilots, a patient, and a family member of the patient. The flight was reportedly a medical transport heading to Springfield, Missouri.

The aircraft went down less than three miles from the airport, near Roosevelt Mall, resulting in a large explosion. Several roads in the area have been closed. Authorities report multiple injuries on the ground, though the number of casualties remains unknown at this time. Emergency responders are on the scene.
