Sonia Gandhi is the 12th richest world leader, ahead of Queen Elizabeth of Britain, Albert II, Prince of Monaco and several heads of oil-rich middle-east nations, a report in Huffington Post World says.Huff Post World has calculated each world leader’s personal wealth against his or her country’s GDP to compile a list of Top 20 richest leaders “just to show how different life is for the haves and have-nots,” it says.
“Unsurprisingly, many of their country’s citizens lead much, much humbler lives,” the report notes.At number 12, it puts Mrs Gandhi’s worth at $ 2 billion (Rs. 12,000 crore). Valdimir Putin, president of Russia, tops the list and President Barack Obama of the US does not find place on it. “To put it in perspective, President Obama may be worth several million dollars, but he does not even come close to some of (his) contemporaries,” says the report.
HuffPost World says it has used “available data” to compile “a list of the 20 richest world leaders currently in power.”On the list are kings, presidents, sultans and queens. Most, notes the report, “are male (as the world’s political leaders tend to be, too)”.
