Starlink, the satellite-based internet service developed by SpaceX, has officially launched its operations in Bangladesh, offering high-speed internet connectivity across the country, including underserved rural and remote regions. This development marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in areas lacking reliable fibre-optic infrastructure.
Customers can now choose between two service plans:
Starlink Residential: Priced at Tk 6,000 per month (approx. INR 4,500), offering unlimited data with speeds of up to 300 Mbps.
Residential Lite: A more affordable option at Tk 4,200 per month (approx. INR 3,150), also providing unlimited data.
Both packages require a one-time hardware and installation fee of Tk 47,000 (approx. INR 35,000). Each Starlink terminal is capable of covering an area of 20–30 metres, adequate for multiple rooms in a multi-storey residence.
The launch follows Starlink’s record-fast licensing by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), which granted the necessary approvals within just 90 days on 29 April—making it the quickest Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellite internet licence approval in the nation’s history.
The original proposed monthly tariff of Tk 7,000 (approx. INR 5,250) was reduced through government negotiations to ensure broader affordability and accessibility.
In parallel, the government of Bangladesh is actively developing a financial support framework to assist public service organisations in adopting Starlink services. This initiative may involve collaborations with microcredit agencies, financial institutions, and banks to facilitate financing options for eligible entities.
The entry of Starlink into Bangladesh represents a transformative shift in the country’s connectivity landscape, promising faster, more stable internet for both urban and remote communities.
