When his mother published his famous photograph in which he is seen with a clenched fist full of sea sand and a remarkably determined yet innocent face 8 years ago, Sammy Griner became a rage and the photograph has been widely used for numerous success and inspirational quotes and memes worldwide. Now, the grown up Sam has pulled off a miracle and raised nearly $93,000 through a fundraiser website for his father’s kidney transplant.
Sam Griner lives with his dad Justin Griner and mother Laney Griner in Florida, USA. Sam’s father fell seriously ill in 2006 and his health started to deteriorate, leading to kidney failure in 2009. He has been undergoing dialysis ever since and last week, his parents started a fund raising campaign for his kidney transplant. Within a week, the fundraiser attracted donations of more than $93,000.
Now, the family is on a lookout for a possible kidney donor with the right match of a good tissue. Initially, Sam’s mother did not want to exploit Sam’s internet popularity to raise funds. But, they went ahead with the campaign as it also raises awareness about the issue.
