Ace filmmaker Sukumar, known for his unique storytelling style in Telugu cinema, has always been a strong supporter of emerging talent. Over the years, he has encouraged several of his assistant directors to step into independent filmmaking. Notable names such as Buchi Babu Sana, Srikanth Odela, Karthik Dandu, and Palnati Surya Pratap have all trained under his mentorship.
To provide a platform for new voices, Sukumar established his own production banner, Sukumar Writings. The banner debuted with Kumari 21F (2015), directed by Palnati Surya Pratap, which stood out for its bold and unconventional narrative. Following that, Uppena by Buchi Babu Sana and Virupaksha by Karthik Dandu further cemented the banner’s reputation for nurturing fresh talent.
Now, Sukumar Writings is reportedly set to produce a spiritual sequel to Kumari 21F, titled Kumari 22F. The film will be helmed by one of Sukumar’s trusted associates. Interestingly, the project will be a joint venture between Sukumar Writings and a newly launched banner — Thabitha Sukumar Films, founded by Sukumar’s wife, Thabitha Sukumar.
After presenting Maruti Nagar Subramanyam, Thabitha has now turned full-time producer, and Kumari 22F will mark her debut under her own banner. An official announcement about the film is expected soon.
