Sivakarthikeyan’s much-anticipated action thriller Madharaasi is gearing up for its grand theatrical release on September 5, with premiere shows already being held today in select locations across the USA and Canada.

Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, the film marks Sivakarthikeyan’s first collaboration with the acclaimed filmmaker. Despite the initial hype following the success of Amaran, North American pre-sales for Madharaasi have fallen significantly short, registering a 69% drop compared to Amaran’s premiere numbers. Trade reports indicate that the film earned $40K in pre-sales overseas — $32.7K from the USA and the rest from Canada, whereas Amaran had collected $129K in premiere pre-sales.

Industry analysts suggest that the promotional campaign for Madharaasi was underwhelming, failing to sustain audience excitement. While the recent failure of Rajinikanth’s Coolie could indirectly help the film, the current numbers point to a soft overseas start, surprising many given Sivakarthikeyan’s growing international fanbase.

The film stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, and Biju Menon in pivotal roles. Produced by N. Srilakshmi Prasad under Sri Lakshmi Movies, Madharaasi is reported to have been made on a ₹200 crore budget, making its box-office recovery heavily dependent on domestic performance and steady overseas growth.
