Supreme Court orders investigation into Swarna Palace incident

The fire that broke out in Swarna Palace of Vijayawada resulted in a tragic incident, where 10 Coronavirus patients had lost their lives, and many others had been severely injured. Swarna Palace had been rented by Ramesh Hospitals, for the treatment of Coronavirus.

Ever since the incident broke out, Dr. Ramesh of Ramesh hospitals has been missing, and even applied for anticipatory bail, which the High Court had sanctioned. The High Court also said that there are to be no further investigations about the incident, and that Ramesh is not to be investigated or arrested.

The Andhra Pradesh government took this case to the Supreme Court, and highlighted the fact that it was not right to stall the investigation process, or to not punish those who were responsible for the incident. Hearing what the government had to say, the Supreme Court issued a Stay Order on the High Court’s verdict, and gave a go ahead for the investigation of Dr. Ramesh.

However, the Supreme Court said that the High Court could give its own orders, based on the evidence that would be presented to it, after the investigation of Dr. Ramesh. It also gave permission to the government to further investigate the case, and to arrest those who are responsible for the incident, if necessary.

The Vijayawada police is now proceeding with the investigation at a faster pace, anda re trying to gather all the information required for the possible arrest of Dr. Ramesh, and others who might be responsible for the incident.
