The film industry is filled with talented heroes—actors known for their performances, dance, and charisma. While many are celebrated on-screen as reel-life heroes, only a few earn the title of real-life heroes. These are individuals who go beyond their stardom to serve society, often donating a portion of their earnings to charity and uplifting lives through selfless acts.
Superstar Mahesh Babu and Tamil star Suriya are among such real-life heroes. Mahesh Babu, through his charitable foundation, has helped numerous children undergo life-saving heart surgeries, earning him love and admiration off-screen as well. Similarly, Suriya has been transforming lives through his Agaram Foundation, which focuses on empowering underprivileged youth through education.
Established in 2006 in Chennai, the Agaram Foundation prioritizes education for children from economically backward families. It supports students who dream of studying but lack the financial means. Over the years, the foundation has enabled nearly 8,000 students to pursue higher education, of which over 1,800 have gone on to become engineers and professionals in various fields.
As the foundation celebrated its 15-year milestone, a grand event was held at a private college in Chennai. The event was attended by Suriya, his family members Shivakumar, Karthi, Jyothika, along with other celebrities like Kamal Haasan and director Vetrimaaran. Suriya got emotional while speaking, stating that Agaram believes “education is the most powerful weapon” and seeing that belief become a reality moved him deeply.
He emphasized that education isn’t just about academics—it’s also about preserving our traditions and unlocking hidden talents. The foundation has been a beacon of hope for students from rural areas. Suriya was visibly emotional as he watched 51 students, who studied medicine through Agaram’s support, speak on stage as practicing doctors. Netizens were deeply touched by Suriya’s humility and compassion, showering him with praise and heartfelt messages online.
